Giants reportedly considering Jimmy Garoppolo, Vikings' J.J. McCarthy, 49ers' Mac Jones to potentially fill QB role in wake of Jaxson Dart's injury

As Jameis Winston starts in place of injured quarterback Jaxson Dart for the New York Giants in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans, the team continues to look at other potential options for the position.

ESPN and NFL Network reported a handful of quarterbacks the Giants could consider bringing in based on their evaluation of Winston’s performance:

• Free agent Jimmy Garoppolo

• Cardinals backup Gardner Minshew II

• Vikings third-stringer J.J. McCarthy

• 49ers backup Mac Jones

• Chiefs backup Justin Fields

• Free agent Brandon Allen

The Giants elevated Jake Haener from their practice squad to be Winston’s backup in Week 3.

Giants coach John Harbaugh has said the team is looking at all options to fill the position after Dart was lost to a knee injury that will sideline him for at least the remainder of the regular season.

Winston’s performance against the Titans could determine how aggressively the Giants decide to pursue another experienced quarterback, ESPN reported. Winston struggled after he replaced Dart early in the Giants’ Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but New York reportedly thinks he will play better now that the coaches will build a game plan more suited to his skills.

McCarthy has falled to third on Minnesota‘s depth chart after starting some of last season. It is unclear if the Cardinals, 49ers or Chiefs will consider parting with their backups given the number of injuries starting quarterbacks have suffered already this season.
