The Milwaukee Bucks have officially ushered in a new era, agreeing to trade franchise icon Giannis Antetokounmpo and veteran forward Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat in one of the most significant deals in NBA history.

According to ESPN, the Heat will send Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., rookie guard Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, unprotected first-round selections in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2033 second-round pick to Milwaukee as part of the blockbuster agreement.

The move ends a remarkable 13-year run in Milwaukee for Antetokounmpo, who was selected 15th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft and developed into one of the greatest players in franchise history. The two-time NBA MVP led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA championship and leaves as the organization’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks.

Heat go all-in

Despite battling injuries during the 2025-26 season, Antetokounmpo remained dominant, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 62.4% from the field.

For Miami, the acquisition represents a franchise-altering move. The Heat pair Antetokounmpo with Bam Adebayo and veteran wing Norman Powell, instantly elevating themselves into championship contention in the Eastern Conference. The addition of Portis provides another proven frontcourt contributor who averaged double figures in scoring and has long been regarded as one of the league’s most productive reserve big men.

Milwaukee’s return signals a full-scale reset. Herro, a former All-Star and one of the NBA’s premier perimeter scorers, becomes the centerpiece of the rebuild. Ware and Jaquez Jr. provide promising young talent, while Jakucionis adds another developmental piece with considerable upside. Just as important, the Bucks acquire significant draft capital that could help accelerate their reconstruction efforts.

While saying goodbye to Antetokounmpo will be difficult for Bucks fans, the organization secured one of the largest trade packages ever received for a superstar. Meanwhile, Miami finally lands the franchise-changing player it has pursued for years, positioning the Heat to compete for championships immediately.
