Getafe makes offer to Jadon Sancho

· · 2 min read

Getafe has offered Jadon Sancho a contract, according to The Times, giving the former Manchester United winger another possible route back into club football.

The 26-year-old has been without a team since his contract with United expired at the end of June. An agreement with Getafe has yet to be announced, with the Spanish club attempting to add another experienced name after signing Dani Carvajal earlier this week.

The approach follows a report from DAZN journalist Pablo Pinto, carried by Estadio Deportivo, that Getafe was interested in Sancho. The Spanish outlet identified his salary expectations as a major obstacle, with the winger’s demands stretching beyond the club’s usual spending capacity.

Getafe has already brought in one prominent free agent, with Carvajal signing until the end of the season after leaving Real Madrid. Jose Bordalas’ side collected eight points from its opening eight La Liga matches and sits 14th.

Sancho’s search has taken several turns. In September, Krasnodar turned down the chance to sign him despite his willingness to consider a move to Russia. That report, from Andrey Pankov of Championat, said discussions had never reached an advanced stage.

United confirmed Sancho’s departure in June, ending a spell that began with his £75 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Much of the latter part of his Old Trafford career was spent elsewhere, beginning with a return to Dortmund on loan during the second half of the 2023-24 season.

He followed that with a season at Chelsea, where he scored five goals and supplied eight assists in 41 appearances as the club won the Conference League.

His next loan took him to Aston Villa. Sancho made 39 appearances during a campaign that ended with fourth place in the Premier League and the Europa League trophy, although his only goal came against Fenerbahce in January.
