The University of Georgia beat the University of Alabama at Saturday night’s Tuscaloosa game, winning 20-17.

It’s the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa since 2007.

Alabama fans showed their frustration at the Crimson Tide’s loss to the Bulldogs with less than sportsmanlike behavior.

Channel 2’s Alison Mastrangelo was in Tuscaloosa, where Alabama fans took the loss hard.

Upset Alabama fans were throwing bottles and cans at the players and on the field. Mastrangelo’s video shows various bottles and other trash items on the ground as players walked off the field.

That had Georgia coaches telling players to put their helmets back on while leaving the field, which Channel 2 Action News caught on video after the game.

Despite Hurricane Isaias coming ashore, and causing a change up to audiences with President Donald Trump canceling his attendance to let first responders prepare for potential storm emergencies, the game went off without a hitch.

The game didn’t end without controversy. Referees did not throw a flag on what appeared to be a pass interference play in the endzone. A penalty would have put Alabama into field goal position with the chance to tie the game.

“What a great college football game, great atmosphere. I’ve been in a bunch of those with them and they all seem similar, you know, just physical game back and forth, some critical calls, critical situations. You could go back and look at hundreds of them on there,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said in his postgame news conference.

In a statement shared with AL.com, Alabama athletics condemns the behavior of the fans who threw trash: “We are disappointed by the unacceptable behavior exhibited by some of the game’s attendees last night and are in the process of gathering information. Alabama takes matters of fan conduct seriously and expects everyone at our events to demonstrate respect to the student-athletes, coaches, staff, officials and visitors. Such conduct will not be tolerated.”

Up next for the Bulldogs, Georgia will host Auburn in “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” next Saturday.
