Garrett Wilson used part of his appearance on Wednesday’s episode of the St. Brown Podcast, hosted by Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous, to explain how Ohio State keeps Michigan in front of its players. The New York Jets wide receiver last played in the rivalry in 2021, and what he described is a year-round fixture on the Buckeyes’ practice schedule.
“It ain’t that I don’t like Michigan,” Wilson said. “It’s more like, bro, when I was there, they do a good job of, you hate them. You really do hate them when you in school there.”
“They do certain things. You got like a period a day dedicated to Michigan where it’s all scout looks of Michigan. They change the music to their fight song and it’s got them up on the video board.”
“Every practice during the year, bro. No matter. Even if you’re not playing them. Once the week you play them, then that’s every period. It’s crazy.”
“You doing mat drills during the offseason and you beating up on a Michigan one, but there’s only one of them,” Wilson said of the winter program. “It’s not like everybody gets them. So if you got that one, you special. They do a good job, bro, for sure.”
Michigan then won The Game four years in a row, from 2021 through 2024, and by Wilson’s account the period a day stayed on the practice schedule through all of it.

Why does Michigan still come up in Garrett Wilson’s NFL interviews?
Earlier this month, Wilson was asked at Jets practice about Michigan’s 13-12 win over Western Michigan, a result the MAC appealed on the grounds that replay protocol had not been followed and the NCAA let stand. “I mean, I didn’t watch it. I was watching tennis, honestly,” he told reporters. “But it doesn’t surprise me, them getting the nod on some BS.”
Four years into an NFL career, he is still being asked about Michigan in a Jets locker room and still answering, which is roughly what a period a day is built to produce.
Wilson himself went 1-1 in the rivalry, catching 13 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns across the two editions he played. The win came as a freshman in 2019, when Ohio State went to Ann Arbor and scored 56 points, and his last college game was the first loss of the streak.
Ohio State ended that streak on Nov. 29 in Ann Arbor, holding Michigan to 163 yards and no touchdowns in front of 111,373 at Michigan Stadium in a 27-9 win that was Ryan Day’s first in the rivalry since that 2019 trip. Julian Sayin threw three touchdown passes and Michigan never reached the end zone.
