Fresno City College Rams stun Modesto in late stages to top league standings

· · 1 min read

A late-game charge led by Fresno City’s special teams and defense proved to be the difference in a thrilling 24-17 win over Modesto to vault to the top spot in the league standings on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams entered the fourth quarter trailing 17-14, but a forced fumble by Aiden Chavez recovered by Geremy Molett put the Rams in prime position and Jared Roberts delivered, tying the game with an ice-cold field goal.

Fresno City got a stop on the ensuing drive to get the ball back but was forced to punt on their next offensive possession.

Although, being forced to punt proved to be exactly what FCC needed.

Roberts delivered again, this time pinning the Pirates at their own one-yard line, and the defense responded accordingly.

On the next play, the Rams popped the ball free, and Tana Togafau-Tavui fell on the loose ball for the easiest touchdown he’ll ever score, and probably the most important.

The Rams took the lead and despite the Pirates driving right down the field, a batted ball with triple zeroes on the clock sealed a crucial win in league play for FCC.

Fresno City now sits tied atop the league standings with their next opponent, Monterey Peninsula, at 2-0 and improves to 5-2 on the season.
