Sampson Secures Scholarship In Rwanda
Sampson Abasiofon Otobong, a student of Nigerian Tulip International College, Abuja, was selected for EGMO training before competing for a fully funded scholarship to the African Olympiad Academy (AOA) in Rwanda.
She secured the scholarship and is currently studying at the academy, where she is pursuing further training in mathematical sciences.
Her achievement represents another pathway from national mathematics competitions to international academic opportunities.
Aghaduno Returns To Win PAMO Medal
Chimfumnanya Aghaduno’s journey was marked by an earlier setback after she was unsuccessful in the Special Maths Contest in 2023.
She returned to the competition in 2024 and progressed to the final round held in Abuja in February 2025.
She was subsequently selected for EGMO training and later earned a place representing Nigeria at PAMO 2026, where she won a silver medal.
Her progression from an unsuccessful attempt to an international medal highlights the competitive and developmental nature of the mathematics training pathway.
Special Maths Contest Opens 2026/2027 Edition
The achievements of the four students come as the Special Maths Contest opens its 2026/2027 edition to students across Nigeria.
Organised by Special Maths Academy, the contest is described by the organisation as a free talent-identification platform for students interested in mathematical problem-solving.
The academy said its subsequent training programme is designed to prepare selected students for national and international mathematical competitions.
The experiences of Oghenerukwe, Oyerinde, Sampson and Aghaduno demonstrate the range of opportunities that can emerge from sustained participation in mathematics competitions, including international representation, scholarships and access to advanced academic institutions.
