Former West Virginia guard Honor Huff plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The 5-foot-10 is currently seeking a fifth year of eligibility after spending the 2025-26 season with the Mountaineers.
After starting his college basketball career at VMI in 2021, Huff sat out the 2022-23 season while transferring to Chattanooga. There, he spent two seasons and became a two-time All-SoCon selection.

Last season, Huff averaged 16.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 35.4-percent from the 3-point line. He started all 35 games during the year, including 18 in the Big 12 schedule.
While this would be a sixth season overall, his case centers on the fact he would only be playing in his fifth year of college basketball after the redshirt. He has a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, October 28 to determine his eligibility.
More on fifth-year transfer eligibility
The NCAA continues to fight against the Class of 2022, and a handful of other cases including Huff, as they look to enforce eligibility rules which previously gave each athlete four seasons. However, many judges have ruled in favor of players who argue that they should benefit from a new rule implemented in the summer.
A new NCAA rule provides players from the 2023 class forward with five years of eligibility, but strips the convoluted list of exceptions which include redshirts and various other reasons which have allowed athletes to remain in college well beyond the four-year standard. A prevision was left in the new rule to cover added years based on religious missions or pregnancy, among a handful of other cases.
While the rule went into place after the departure 2022 class members who played four straight seasons, it went into effect before the start of the next school year. That allowed many players to make their case in front of a judge prior to the new season and secure an injunction.
