Former UNC guard Seth Trimble makes move to ACC rival

Former North Carolina guard Seth Trimble has committed to Louisville, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Trimble, who entered the transfer portal in the spring, was cleared to play next season after a Colorado district court ruling granted Class of 2022 high schoolers a fifth season of college eligibility.

According to ESPN, he told Thamel that he UNC “home” and he valued his time with the team, but a crowded roster ultimately prompted him to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Trimble averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3 assists per game while shooting 47.1% from the field in 24 games for North Carolina last season and scored 971 career points in 126 games over four seasons for the Tar Heels. He played in five Las Vegas Summer League games for the Washington Wizards, averaging 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Regardless of how you feel about it at the moment, Trimble should always be remembered.

After a rough junior season, he could have transferred anywhere in the country and would have gotten a lot of money. But he didn’t.

Trimble helped the coaching staff land several key transfers, including Henri Veesaar.

Trimble has had plenty of great moments and always came up clutch when the Tar Heels needed a spark. The most notable one was his game-winning buzzer-beater shot against Duke, one that reminded everybody that the Duke-UNC rivalry would never die, even with the collegiate sports landscape changing constantly.

While this may be a tough pill to swallow, had the Colorado district court ruling happened back in May, there would be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Trimble would be a Tar Heel.

For his final season of playing college hoops, he will be a Cardinal, but he’s a Tar Heel for life.
