Former Tennessee baseball pitcher Ben Joyce returned to MLB on Wednesday for the first time since April 8, 2025. The right-handed pitcher was activated by the Angels from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday after right shoulder surgery.
Joyce pitched one inning in relief against the Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. He recorded one strikeout and 16 pitches (eight strikes) against three batters. The former Vol allowed one walk in the Angels’, 5-2, loss.
Joyce was at Tennessee from 2021-22 after transferring from Walters State Community College. He did not play in 2021 due to rehabbing from offseason surgery.
Joyce appeared in 27 games and started one contest in 2022 for the Vols. He had a 2-1 record, while totaling 53 strikeouts in 32.1 innings.
The former Vol was selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2022 Major League Baseball draft (No. 89 overall). He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance at Tennessee.
Joyce is from Farragut High School in Farragut, Tennessee.
