Former Steelers CB Joe Haden says Mike Tomlin lacked accountability

Ever since Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, several former players have shared their opinions – both good and bad – on the Super Bowl-winning head coach.

Most notably, James Harrison was very outspoken about Tomlin, saying he didn’t believe he was a Hall of Fame caliber head coach.

“He’s the only coach to coach this long and not have a tree,” Harrison said.

Harrison also noted the fact that Tomlin is 8-12 in the postseason, which he believes is not worthy of a Hall of Fame selection. Now, his co-host, Joe Haden is sharing his thoughts about a Tomlin shortcoming – accountability.

“Everything needs to be tight,” Haden said on Deebo & Joe. “There was a looseness that was going around. That looseness is a reason where errors come in… If star players were doing certain things, you just gotta nip it in the bud.”

Haden then notes that star players were given too much leeway if they were late to meetings. The most notorious example of this was Antonio Brown, who was known to constantly be late for meetings.

Haden played under Tomlin from 2017-21, earning a Pro Bowl appearance in 2019.
