Former North Eugene star Andrew Moore hired as next OSU pitching coach

One of the top prep baseball players to ever come out of Lane County is headed back to Corvallis for a high-profile coaching role.

Andrew Moore, a former North Eugene pitching star who went on to play in the big leagues, was announced June 20 as Oregon State’s next pitching coach. The 2012 OSAA Class 5A player of the year, Moore was an All-American hurler for the Beavers.

“Andrew is a Beaver through and through and I am excited to bring him and his family back to Corvallis,” Oregon State coach Mitch Canham said in a press release. “He excelled on the mound during his playing career and has established himself as a well-respected and exceptional pitching coach during his time in professional baseball. Oregon State’s pitching will benefit immensely from his addition to the coaching staff and I can’t wait to see him back in the Orange and Black.”

Moore returns to Oregon State after three seasons as a pitching coach in the Cleveland Guardians system.

Most recently, Moore led the staff for the Columbus Clippers, Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate.

Moore played for the Beavers from 2013-15 and tallied a 27-9 record in 51 appearances, including 48 starts. During his three seasons at OSU, he accumulated a 2.10 earned run average — third-best in program history.

“I am very excited to be back in Corvallis and compete for a National Championship along a fantastic coaching staff at a place that has meant so much to me,” Moore said in a press release. “I’m ready to get to work with this special group of young men who are ready to achieve great things on and off the field in Corvallis. We’re going to continue having Oregon State as being a nationally premier pitching program.”

Following his junior season, Moore was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He went on to play seven professional seasons. He made his Major League debut with the Mariners in 2017 and carried a 5.34 ERA in 11 appearances that season.

Moore also made a big-league appearance with Seattle in 2019 and spent time in the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers organizations.

At Oregon State, Moore will be building a pitching staff from scratch as he replaces longtime pitching coach Rich Dorman, who was recently hired for the same role at the University of Florida.

The Beavers’ All-American sophomore right-hander, Dax Whitney, is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 MLB Draft. But he underwent season-ending ulnar collateral ligament surgery this spring and is expected to miss his entire junior year.

Oregon State’s other two weekend starters — juniors Ethan Kleinschmit and Eric Segura — are expected to declare for the 2026 MLB Draft. Mid-week starter Trey Morris and reliever Zach Edwards recently announced they have committed to transfer to Florida.
