Portland (11-4-6) defeated Denver (6-6-8), 1-0, in a NWSL match Sunday at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. 22,017 were in attendance.
Former Tennessee women’s soccer player M.A. Vignola appeared in the game for the Thorns. She recorded one shot on target, 53 touches, 16 defensive interventions and won five duels.
Sophia Wilson scored the only goal of the match for Portland. The Thorns will next play Friday versus Gotham FC. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. EDT at Providence Park.
Vignola began her professional career in Iceland, playing for Prottur (2020) and Valur (2021). She began her NWSL career with Angel City FC in 2022 and played for the club based in Los Angeles, California from 2022-25 before being traded to the Thorns on Sept. 30, 2025. Vignola was the second-ever player to be signed by Angel City FC.
She also played for the United States under-17 team and the United States Women’s National Team, making one appearance in 2023 in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Vignola played for the Lady Vols from 2016-19 and earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2019. She was named All-SEC First Team in 2019.
