Former Kentucky star Otega Oweh looks likely to miss some time

· · 1 min read

Injuries are, unfortunately, inevitable for high-level athletes, and former Kentucky Wildcats star Otega Oweh has had his fair share. At the NBA’s Summer League in Salt Lake City, Oweh rolled his ankle, forcing him to leave the game. Now it looks like he’ll miss some time.

Oweh, the Oklahoma City Thunder draft pick, showed up to Tuesday night’s game against the Utah Jazz wearing a walking boot, and didn’t play in the game. He most likely won’t play in the rest of the summer league games either.

In two seasons at Kentucky, Oweh became a beloved star, leading the Wildcats to two NCAA Tournament trips, and creating an all-time great highlight with his half-court heave against Santa Clara. He made a number of clutch shots for them, and led them in scoring in both of his seasons. He was then drafted 41st overall by the Thunder in the 2026 NBA draft.

Oweh’s first summer league game went well. He posted 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. An official return timeline hasn’t been given by the Thunder yet, but he will likely be ready to go when the season begins. Big Blue Nation will be rooting for a quick return and success in OKC.
