FSU baseball’s offseason continues to be impacted by the transfer portal, and one departing Seminole is already drawing significant national attention. Former Florida State catcher Hunter Carns was ranked No. 19 overall in On3’s latest College Baseball Transfer Portal Rankings, which highlighted the top 25 players currently available in the portal.
The ranking places Carns among the most sought-after transfer prospects in the country as programs look to strengthen their rosters ahead of the 2027 season. Carns entered the portal shortly after the conclusion of FSU’s 2026 campaign, which ended with a loss to St. John’s in the Tallahassee Regional final. During his time with the Seminoles, Carns developed into one of the ACC’s more reliable catchers.
The catcher put together a strong 2026 season, appearing in 58 games while providing production in the middle of Florida State’s lineup. Carns finished the year batting .307 with 13 home runs, 52 RBIs, and a .401 slugging percentage. While he had his struggles, he has an extremely high ceiling.
His inclusion at No. 19 also serves as another reminder of the talent Florida State assembled during its 2026 season. Carns was one of six Seminoles recently named to D1Baseball’s Top 250 MLB Draft Prospects rankings, checking in at No. 166 overall.
While Florida State will now look to replace a key piece of its roster heading into 2027, Carns appears positioned to become one of the most coveted additions available on the transfer market. Wherever he ultimately lands, his ranking among the top 20 portal players suggests he will have no shortage of high-level programs interested in his services.
