The Atlanta Falcons had one major issue on defense heading into roster cuts, but they addressed it by trading for Chicago Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter. Atlanta is currently down both starting edge rushers, and while James Pearce will return following his eight-game suspension, the team knew it needed to make a move.
Dexter gives the team more size on the interior and is someone who can push the pocket. Shortly after the Falcons added the former Bears defensive tackle to their roster, they released another ex-Chicago defensive lineman.
Veteran defensive tackle Chris Williams was signed to provide interior depth in free agency. He followed Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham down from Chicago to Atlanta. Williams was released at the 53-man deadline, but he has since landed a new gig with Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski’s old team.
The Cleveland Browns signed Williams to their 16-man practice squad on Tuesday. The former undrafted free agent has appeared in 44 career games, recording 43 tackles (26 solo), four sacks and 10 QB hits. He will look to make an impact in Cleveland, where they are still adjusting to life without All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett.
The Falcons have signed 15 players to their practice squad thus far, adding UDFA guard Josh Thompson. Check out Atlanta’s current practice squad below.
