Former adult entertainer sworn in as senator in Colombia

A former adult entertainer, Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, popularly known as Amaranta Hank, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia.

Ortiz secured a seat in the Colombian Senate following her victory in the March elections, where she campaigned on a platform focused on rights and protections for workers in the adult entertainment industry.

According to local media reports, she will represent the Norte de Santander region under the Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 legislative term.

The Historic Pact emerged as the strongest political bloc in the election, winning over 4.4 million votes and securing 25 seats in the Senate.

Before entering politics, Ortiz worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult entertainment industry. She has maintained that her past career should not define her ability to serve in public office.

Speaking on the criticism surrounding her election, Ortiz questioned why women who previously worked in the adult industry should be excluded from seeking elected positions.

“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” she asked in a video shared on social media.

Ortiz has also advocated for greater legal recognition and protection for people who have worked in the sexual economy, arguing that they contribute to the country’s economy and deserve equal rights and opportunities.

Beyond her advocacy for adult industry workers, the senator said she plans to focus on mental health policies and initiatives aimed at combating sexual abuse.

Her rise to the Senate has attracted significant attention in Colombia and abroad, adding a new dimension to the country’s evolving political landscape.
