Almost every team in the NBA has been hit by injuries this season.
We are less than a month into the new campaign, and several big names have already been sidelined due to one issue or another. There are fears that the list could grow in the coming weeks and months.
Many feel the schedule is the reason why, but Jalen Brunson has a different theory.
Jalen Brunson says the NBA’s injury crisis could be down to ‘style of play’
It has been a real shame to see several fantastic players miss games due to injuries this season.
From Anthony Edwards and Ja Morant to Paolo Banchero and Kawhi Leonard, many are currently sidelined, causing their respective teams to be significantly weaker.
Several theories have been going around – from the gruelling schedule to a lack of preparation in pre-season practice sessions.
But Jalen Brunson thinks it may actually be down to the style of play most coaches employ in the NBA in today’s game.
When told that 16-20 per cent of the league is on the injury report, Brunson said on the Roommates Show: “I just feel like it’s a lot.
“Is the schedule asking too much of the players? No! I mean, the schedule is the schedule. It’s been that way for – we’ve been playing 82 games for, I don’t know how many years – like decades.
“But it’s obviously unfortunate things happen, but yeah, I don’t think it’s the scheduling part. I think maybe it’s like the style of play. We’re playing fast-paced basketball.”
The intensity involved in almost every team sport in the world has gone up in recent years, and it is showing no signs of slowing down.
That has definitely made games more interesting, but it has to be said that the physical burden on players has gone up as well. That increases the risk of injuries, which we are all seeing right now.
