The Meet the Parents franchise is a multi-film comedy movie series centered on the cultural and lifestyle clashes between the uptight Byrnes family and the free-spirited Focker family. The franchise began in 2000 with the release of Meet the Parents, starring Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller, based on an independent movie released in 1992. Since then, two sequels have followed: 2004’s Meet the Fockers and 2010’s Little Fockers. After 16 years, Stiller and De Niro are returning to the beloved comedy.
Movie lovers and critics alike can watch the newest installment of the Meet the Parents franchise, Focker-In-Law, before its release on November 25. The new movie follows Greg Focker’s (played by Stiller) son Henry (played by Skyler Gisondo) as he brings his trained FBI hostage negotiator girlfriend, Olivia (played by Ariana Grande), home to meet the family, leading to chaos and mayhem. First reactions to the iconic comedy franchise’s return are officially in.
ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender shared her thoughts on Focker-In-Law, praising Grande for meeting Stiller’s stellar comedic timing in the best way by stating, “Focker-In-Law was such a fun and fresh movie! Seeing Ariana Grande go toe-to-toe with Ben Stiller was a blast, as Skyler Gisondo is adorkably lovable. Certified good time at the cinema!”
The Genre of Your Life podcast host, Doug Jones, shared a similar sentiment regarding Focker-In-Law, and even went as far to say that Grande “steals the show.” “#FockerInLaw is a Focking good time! Perfect for the whole family & just in time for the holidays! Charmingly cute, hilarious & has a ton of heart. It captures everything that made the original so beloved & special. The new cast members are stellar & Ariana Grande steals the show,” shared Jones.
The Grande praise keeps on coming, as writer and critic Bill Bria stated, “For the Ariana fans in my mentions: yes, she’s excellent in it. Proves that she gets the tone of the material. And, while she can be broad when it’s required, she’s mostly subtle and grounded, which sells the comedy even better.” Bria continued and shared, “FOCKER-IN-LAW is the most unexpectedly pleasant surprise. Rather than lazily flipping the script of MEET THE PARENTS (or repeating it), John Hamburg & co. make a clever direct sequel that’s reliant on the top notch cast, with Ben Stiller being MVP. Some belly laughs in this one!”
Critic Christopher Rates It went so far as to state that Grande’s presence would’ve been missed thanks to her charm and comedic timing. He stated:
“In all honesty, Focker-in-Law is funnier and better than you’d initially expect.
The combined chemistry of Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Ariana Grande, and Skyler Gisondo makes this just a simple fine watch to wind down. It feels reminiscent of the original and has some hilarious set pieces here and there but is ultimately bogged down by falling into legacy sequel tropes and some moments that feel out of place.
It’s a film that truthfully wouldn’t be the same without Ariana Grande’s charm, comedic timing, and ability to shift tones without it feeling jarring.”

Editor and film critic Edward Douglas guarantees that laughter will arise when enjoying watching Focker-In-Law upon its global theatrical release on November 25. Douglas shared a post on X with a small review of the comedy movie and stated, “I just got back from an early screening of Focker-in-Law, and I was not expecting to laugh as much as I did, mainly because I’d seen the trailer so many times and was nervous those were the biggest laughs… nope… and the movie gives a lot more context to those jokes as well.”
Another early review came from Brandon Davis gave for Focker-In-Law, which really makes clear that this is a perfect family movie by stating, “#FockerInLaw is a really fun time. It’s a bit over-the-top like a classic comedy at times and still reels it in for surprisingly touching end. Ariana is really good, Ben Stiller & Robert De Niro are committed & comedic as ever. My Mom is gonna love it.”
That Hollywood Show‘s Editor-in-Chief, Junior Felix, goes as far as to claim Focker-In-Law is “the funniest films of the year.” Felix shared his early thoughts on X and stated, “#FockerInLaw is one of the funniest films of the year! I had an absolute blast watching this film and genuinely was not ready for the amount of times I would die laughing. Ariana Grande is a damn treasure and has some hilarious moments. This is the pitch perfect family comedy we really need right now and it’s the gift that keeps giving. Also, Eduardo Franco is HYSTERICAL!”
Focker-In-Law heads to theaters on November 25.
