Florida inches up The Athletic’s 138 re-rank after Week 8 bye

Florida football got its first and only breather of the 2026 campaign last weekend, giving the Gators a chance to regroup before their annual rivalry game against Georgia in Atlanta this coming Saturday. Nonetheless, college football continued to play out its schedule, resulting in some changes in the standings.

Now that Week 8’s results are officially in the books, The Athletic’s Chris Vannini issued his latest re-ranking of all 138 FBS schools and bumped the Orange and Blue up one spot to No. 15. Florida is now bookended by No. 14 Missouri and No. 16 Texas Tech.

Compare that with the US LBM Coaches Poll, which ranks the Gators at No. 20, and the AP Top 25, which has them at No. 17.

SEC schools in The Athletic’s 138 re-rank top 25

The SEC has nine representatives in The Athletic’s top 25 — down from 10 last week — with Georgia leading the way at No. 3, followed by Texas (No. 9) and Tennessee (No. 10) among the top 10. The remaining schools representing the conference in the top 25 are Alabama (No. 11), Kentucky (No. 12), Ole Miss (No. 13), Missouri (No. 14), Florida (No. 15) and LSU (No. 20). Mississippi State is the school that fell out, now sitting on the outside looking in at No. 27.
