Hansi Flick had plenty to smile about after Barcelona dismantled Racing Club 7-2, but the German was careful not to let the club’s historic start distract his players from what comes next.
Barcelona have now won seven consecutive matches, yet Flick’s focus remains on maintaining their level rather than celebrating what has already been achieved.
“I like the way we’re playing, as well as the result and the three points. I can say I’m happy; the team is happy,” he began saying.
His response to Barcelona achieving their best-ever start to a season was more measured.
“It’s always positive to get off to a good start. The important thing is to finish well; that’s what we’re working towards.
“We’re in good form, and we have to make the most of it,” he reflected.
He then issued a reminder that the season is still in its early stages, so it is not right to talk about winning La Liga.

“Of course I understand the excitement, but it’s only been six matchdays.
“The most important thing is to stay focused on the next match and not on things that might happen at the end of the season,” he emphasised.
Flick provides Joan Garcia injury update
There was one concern for Barcelona despite the comfortable result, with Joan Garcia withdrawn at half-time.
Speaking about his first-choice goalkeeper, the German manager said, “He had a niggle in his knee, and we will have to wait and see what the tests say.”
Flick was also asked about Wojciech Szczesny’s mistake in the build-up to Racing’s second goal, but refused to make too much of the error.
“I’m not worried about that; he can do better, but that’s football.
“He is our second-choice goalkeeper, and everyone makes mistakes. They scored a goal that wasn’t necessary, but neither was the first one. Everyone makes mistakes. These are things we have to work on.”

Raphinha once again impressed with his intensity and mentality, qualities Flick clearly values.
After the Brazilian’s hat-trick, the manager said, “That’s the sort of attitude I like. Raphinha’s attitude, even in his life outside football.”
Flick also had warm words for Karim Adeyemi, whom he knew from his time as Germany manager.
“He has a lot of potential. He’ll improve. He needs to adapt to our style of play, but he brings a lot to the team. You could see that in three or four moments,” he said.
“All the Barça fans are behind him; I’m delighted for him. He didn’t have an easy time in Germany. He’s a fun player, his teammates like him and he’s a good lad.
“He gives his all, which is important. We’ll work to help him improve. His pace is incredible. He was impressive in the build-up to Lamine’s goal,” he concluded.
