Hansi Flick hailed Anthony Gordon’s impact on Barcelona and revealed Lamine Yamal asked to stay on the pitch, wanting to “give it his all” against Getafe.

Barcelona continued their perfect start to their LaLiga campaign, recording an eighth straight win by beating Getafe 3-0.

Gordon netted his first Barcelona goal in just 78 seconds, with Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde also getting on the scoresheet for the league leaders.

Gordon’s goal is the earliest one scored in LaLiga this season and also marks Barcelona’s quickest goal in the competition since May 2023, when Ansu Fati hit the back of the net against Real Mallorca after 49 seconds.

He is also the third English player to score for Barcelona in LaLiga, after Gary Lineker (42 goals) and Marcus Rashford, who netted eight times last term in the competition.

“For me, he’s doing very well, even before when he didn’t score,” Flick said about Gordon.

“We’re happy. You could see it with the national team; he was confident. He scored. He contributes a lot: he’s fast, controls the ball well, always gets to difficult balls, dribbles, creates opportunities.

“Gordon brings a lot to the table.”

Yamal played the full 90 minutes despite featuring in all four of Spain’s Nations League matches over the international break, and he is the only Barcelona player to have started all eight league matches so far this term.

By setting up Kounde’s goal, the teenager registered his fifth assist in LaLiga in 2026-27, the joint-most in the competition alongside Espanyol’s Javi Hernandez.

Overall, he has been involved in 12 goals in the top flight (also scored seven goals), with only Raphinha (15 goal involvements) having a hand in more.

“He wanted to give it his all,” Flick added about Yamal. “I asked him if he wanted me to substitute him, and he said no.

“He loves to play. We have to manage his workload, but the first half was easier for him, and in the second half he created more chances.

“I’m happy with his attitude. He’s recovering well; he’s doing his treatments.”

Barcelona have won their opening eight LaLiga games in a season for just the second time in their history, after also doing so in 2013-14 under Gerardo Martino.

“It’s difficult to achieve, but we’re focused solely on the next match,” Flick said about Barcelona’s start.

“Now, it’s Galatasaray [in the Champions League]. It won’t be easy, and we want to win.

“We want to make history, and everyone shares that attitude. It’s fantastic to see the quality and intensity with which we train. We enjoy it; the players enjoy it. It’s fantastic to see.”
