The Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, plans to extend the Presidential Executive Order on pharmaceutical manufacturing by another two years.
The extension is expected to run until March 2029.
According to the government, this became necessary to achieve medicine security and cut the country’s dependence on imported drugs by 70 per cent.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, made these revelations while speaking at the opening of the 8th Nigeria Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Expo (NPME) 2026.
Salako, in a statement made available to DAILY POST after the conference on Friday, noted that the earlier executive order issued by the current administration is expected to lapse in March next year.
He, however, explained that the Federal Government has concluded plans to extend the order until March 2029.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Salako said, “The Federal Government has indicated plans to extend the Presidential Executive Order supporting local pharmaceutical manufacturing by another two years.
“The Federal Government is committed to expanding domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing as a pathway to medicine security, healthcare resilience and economic development.”
