He appealed for continued cooperation from academic and non-academic staff, institutional authorities and unions as the government implements its reforms in the sector.

Alausa reiterated that the ministry under his leadership would continue to prioritise staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.

The government’s payment of the CONTA arrears comes shortly after the commencement of CATA payments to academic staff, placing the welfare of both categories of tertiary institution workers at the centre of the latest government intervention.

Government Reaffirms Human Capital Focus

Alausa said the Federal Government remained committed to fulfilling its obligations to personnel in the tertiary education sector and addressing outstanding welfare issues in line with the human capital development objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He maintained that ensuring the stability of tertiary institutions was important to the broader development of Nigeria, given the role universities, polytechnics and colleges of education play in producing skilled manpower.

The minister’s assurance also underscores the government’s intention to maintain dialogue with relevant stakeholders while implementing reforms across the sector.

With the release of the January-to-August 2026 CONTA arrears, the Federal Government is seeking to address welfare concerns among non-academic workers while supporting a more stable academic environment across federal tertiary institutions.

The ministry said continued cooperation among government, workers, unions and institutional authorities would remain important to sustaining industrial harmony and improving the quality and stability of tertiary education nationwide.
