University Hails Investment in Academic Mission

The Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, described the project as a significant investment in the institution’s academic mission.

Fawehinmi said dependable electricity was essential to effective teaching, research, laboratory activities, digital services and the creation of an environment conducive to learning and innovation.

“A university such as ours cannot teach effectively, conduct meaningful research, operate its laboratories, sustain digital services or even provide the conducive environment required for learning and innovation without dependable power supply,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said the project would strengthen the university’s ability to carry out its core academic responsibilities while supporting innovation and other activities across the campus.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, also described reliable electricity as fundamental to education and urged the Federal Government to sustain investment in the power sector.

The commissioning marks another phase in efforts to provide renewable and more reliable electricity infrastructure to federal universities under the Energising Education Programme.

At Yakubu Gowon University, the facility is expected to support teaching, research, laboratory operations, digital services and other critical activities, while its training and STEM components are designed to broaden opportunities for practical learning and skills development.
