FedEx Cup bubble watch shifts to 50 as stars fight for survival in Memphis

New week, new cut-off to advance in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Seventy players made it to Memphis (but only 69 are playing after Daniel Berger opted out) and the first of three legs at TPC Southwind in pursuit of the FedEx Cup and the gigantic payday that awaits the overall champion. Only 50 will move on from the St. Jude to the BMW Championship, which will be staged in St. Louis at Bellerive Country Club this year.

That makes Maverick McNealy the new “Bubble Boy” at No. 50 with Jordan Spieth, Max Homa and Jackson Koivun among the pros on the outside looking in who have work to do if they are going to advance.

This is arguably the biggest week of the playoffs because of what is at stake — the top 50 not only make their way to the next playoff event and another guaranteed payday but they lock up spots in all of the signature events for 2027. Being in those eight events offers a big head start for the 2027 season.

Here’s a closer look at the cutline entering this week’s no-cut, 72-hole event and what the minimum required finish for those players on the outside looking in of the top 50 to mathematically pass McNealy.
