While FBI has spent the past two seasons resolving one of its biggest issues, the storyline they just set up for Stuart Scola (John Boyd) is making it clear that a larger CBS problem may take its place. Scola, who’s been part of the New York team since FBI season 2, has struggled to find a replacement for his longtime partner, Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) since her departure during the show’s seventh season. While Scola himself has been working diligently with the partners the New York field office has brought in, it’s taken time for something to stick on screen.
Though Scola’s professional problems have been a long-standing struggle on FBI, his storyline hasn’t necessarily suffered for not having a consistent partner. As the show has moved through some larger personal issues with Scola, his life outside the field has been his character’s focus, especially after welcoming a son with fellow agent Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten). The pair, who were married in a quiet ceremony during FBI season 8, have fleshed out the better part of Scola’s personal life while he’s worked with a variety of partners, but things have been clicking more regularly with the show’s most recent addition.
FBI season 9 has proven that Scola and his newest partner, Eva Ramos (Juliana Aidén Martinez), are the best duo on the show, but their partnership could be in danger after recent developments. While Scola has been committed to the New York field office, FBI may be choosing to push him away after setting up a possible exit for the longtime character.

In FBI season 9’s most recent episode, the series set up a possible exit path for one of its longest running agents, leaving Scola between a rock and a hard place when Nina gets a new job opportunity. FBI season 9 episode 5, “Atonement,” sees Scola share that Nina has received an offer to lead a task force, but it’s stationed in San Diego. While Nina would get the chance to head up a team of her own, it would take her and the couple’s son Dougie away from New York, which leaves Scola incredibly conflicted on how to advise her.
While Scola was happy for Nina, he made it clear that he didn’t want to support disrupting their family’s life in New York. In talking to Eva about the possibilities, Scola shared his worries, but ultimately shared he knew that Nina should be able to pursue such a big career move. By the end of the episode, Scola was ready to figure out the details later, leaving Nina a voicemail and letting her know she should take the San Diego job. This leaves Scola at an impasse: either he’s moving to San Diego with Nina, or they’re about to be a bi-coastal family.
It seems possible that Scola could choose to move to San Diego with the rest of his family, leaving the New York field office behind. While being bi-coastal may work out more practically for the series, FBI could be gearing up to lose one of its longest-running agents.
Scola Just Got His Perfect Tiffany Partner Replacement In FBI

While Scola’s family has become a massive part of his life during his time on FBI, the series has been clear that his work is also a huge part of his overall happiness. Throughout the past few seasons, specifically, Scola has been trying to find the balance with a new partner after losing Tiffany, his longest-running and best partner. Tiffany’s departure was tough on Scola, who’d formed a great rapport with his partner over the years and has had a tough time replicating that bond with anyone new. Throughout FBI seasons 7 and 8, Scola’s been through several partnerships that simply haven’t panned out.

While the change ups were never easy for Scola or FBI viewers, finding the right partnership for the character was hugely important. Thankfully, with the addition of Eva, Scola has been in a great partnership for the last stretch of FBI. Eva, who originally had some tension with Scola, has proven to be a tremendous agent in her own right, and has helped create one of the best duos that FBI has ever seen. With Scola potentially faced with a choice between his career and his family, his partnership with Eva would be sorely missed if he were to leave FBI.
