Fantasy Football Week 9 RB Report: Breece Hall returns for Jets, sends Braelon Allen back to secondary role
Welcome back for another edition of the fantasy football running back report. In Week 9, we have a few important backfields to highlight and break down for fantasy on a pretty lackluster Sunday afternoon overall for fantasy scoring, particularly at the RB position. While the fantasy points weren’t flowing, there’s still enough that we can gather to help inform us in our lineup decisions moving forward.
Let’s dive in on some committee backfields and what to make of them as we approach Week 10.

Hall was back after missing the past five games due to a quad injury. In his stead, Allen had filled in admirably, putting up top-10 RB fantasy numbers from Weeks 4-8. Over that stretch, Allen averaged 15.2 fantasy points per game in half-PPR formats. He had four straight games with double-digit fantasy points going into Week 9. If you were fortunate enough to snag Allen, you were living a fantasy manager’s dream.
But things came crashing down to earth in Week 9 against the Chiefs. We expected Hall to retain his lead-back role with Allen mixing in, keeping a role in the offense, albeit lesser than when Hall was out. But it wasn’t exactly the 50-50 split we thought it would be, as Hall out-touched Allen, 18-10. Neither back went nuts for managers given the tough road matchup against Kansas City. That will play a big factor in how we evaluate this backfield.
I’m willing to chalk this up to being a poor game script and situation for both backs. The Jets offense struggled to move the ball and it was probably a gift Hall and Allen got to those fantasy totals. New York also wanted to work Hall back up to speed while also keeping Allen involved. WR Garrett Wilson (concussion) being out also doesn’t help the unit overall.
So if we look ahead to Week 10 against the Bills, it should be easier for the Jets to move the ball. If Wilson is back, that could take some opportunities away in the passing game from each back. If Hall maintains this volume or goes back to being the RB1, he’ll be a low-end RB2/3. Allen is more of a flex play at this point but is worth keeping on your roster in case something happens to Hall again.

We may have to graduate the Broncos’ backfield out of this series now that Coleman has taken things over. But we do have to see how the splits go once RB RJ Harvey is off injured reserve. Until then, it appears to be Coleman’s job and Dobbins continues to fall further out of favor with head coach Sean Payton.
Coleman wasn’t very efficient with his touches, but it was clear we were going to get a response from the Panthers’ defense after DC Ejiro Evero was fired following the loss last week on TNF to the Packers. So with Todd Wash taking over the defense, there was an emphasis on stopping the run given what we’ve seen from Denver’s passing game.
Even so, Coleman was able to get home and is trending toward an RB1 finish with 16.8 fantasy points. He commanded most of the RB touches and scored a key TD in the red zone in the second half. The Broncos head into the bye in Week 10, so Coleman will be out of service. If Harvey remains out for Week 11 against the Raiders, Coleman will be a very strong RB2 play in that contest. Denver also has a great schedule down the stretch and one could assume Coleman, as a rookie, will only get better with more reps.
We just need to hope that the return of Harvey doesn’t cut into Coleman’s workload too much. There’s a chance Harvey retains the passing-down role while Coleman handles most of the ground work and goal-line carries. That would still make him very valuable for fantasy but limit his ceiling a bit.

As the NFL Trade Deadline looms on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET, it appears the Colts are going to hold onto Taylor. But the way the offense has been deploying the running backs the past few weeks, it’s looking like this could be a committee the rest of 2026. The Colts could make a few more moves before the deadline to position themselves for a better draft pick. With the playoffs not on the menu this season, Indy wants to get a look at McGowan, who scored his first NFL touchdown in Week 9 against the Cowboys.
Taylor still got most of the work but failed to get to double-digit fantasy points for a second straight week. JT was also taken out of the game on 3rd-and-goal for McGowan, who would go on to score. That’s not a great sign for Taylor, who was one of the better backs in fantasy up until Week 8. Now, we’re not too sure.
This is a tough situation. In a perfect world, Taylor gets traded to a contender and is in a much better environment for fantasy. With Indianapolis not playing for anything, it’s unlikely Taylor gets his usual touch volume moving forward as McGowan could continue to see more looks.
I think JT will have some games where the Colts let him run wild and he gets home for fantasy managers. But the organization also doesn’t care about your fantasy team. Taylor is less of an RB1 and more of an RB2 with upside who could continue to trend in the wrong direction. It may be tough to start him later in the season once the fantasy playoffs roll around, too.
McGowan is looking like a fringe flex option, but a player who could slowly see his role increase if he continues to be efficient with his runs. The rookie isn’t a bad stash off the waiver wire going into Week 10, depending on what happens at the deadline on Tuesday.
