Falcons training camp spotlight: UDFA running back Cash Jones

The Atlanta Falcons have three more weeks before their rookie class reports for training camp in Flowery Branch. With just a six-player draft class and no first-round pick, several of the team’s undrafted free agents have a real chance to make the roster.

Atlanta added several intriguing prospects, including some talented pass-catchers. Considering the Falcons’ lack of depth at the wide receiver position, this is one area that fans should be watching closely when training camp kicks off on July 29.

One player to keep an eye on is running back-turned-wide receiver Cash Jones. The former Georgia Bulldogs standout is the subject of today’s Falcons Wire training camp spotlight.

2025 stats: 15 rushing yards, 20 catches, 195 rec. yards, 1 TD

Cash Jones spent his entire college career at Georgia, rushing for 253 yards and three touchdowns on 4.9 yards per carry. However, the former Bulldogs running back did most of his damage as a third-down back and pass-catching specialist. Jones ended his time at Georgia with 57 career catches for 573 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

The Falcons knew what they were getting in Jones, and immediately tried him out at wide receiver during rookie minicamp. Head coach Kevin Stefanski praised Jones’ versatility.

“This is a very, very smart football player,” said Stefanski. “Obviously, UGA fans know the type of player he is and the type of plays he’s made in the course of his career. I’m so impressed with who he is as a person. The intelligence part of this – you can’t just have a guy go from running back to wide receiver if he’s not intelligent. We’re going to continue to work him in different spots.”

Jones’ special-teams play and pass-catching abilities give him a chance to separate himself, however, the former Bulldog needs to have an outstanding camp in order to make the roster.

“He catches the ball with confident, firm hands (zero drops in 2025) and immediately gets north-south,” wrote The Athletic’s Dane Brugler. “He can shake linebackers in space and has speed to finish. He has questionable vision and run strength, however, to be a between-the-tackles runner in the NFL. He made a noticeable jump in pass protection in 2025, compared to his underclassman tape.”

Jones and the rest of the Falcons rookies will report to camp on July 24, with veterans coming on July 28. Here’s a clip of Jones working through drills at minicamp.
