Falcons GM on Pitts extension: 'Kyle has earned this opportunity'

The Atlanta Falcons continue to get things done under first-year general manager Ian Cunningham. The team has already locked up two of its offensive cornerstones in wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts.

After giving London a four-year, $141 million extension earlier this month, the Falcons officially signed Pitts to a three-year, $54 million extension on Monday afternoon. Cunningham has said he appreciates players who produce, and these two signings prove those aren’t just words.

The Falcons GM released praised Pitts for his consistency in a statement once the deal was finalized.

“Kyle has earned this opportunity through the consistency he’s shown every day and the growth he’s made both on and off the field,” said Cunningham. “When we approach any contract decision, we’re always looking at the broader NFL landscape. How the market is evolving, where it’s headed, and how that aligns with our long-term roster strategy. That process-driven approach allows us to reward our own players while maintaining flexibility moving forward.”

Pitts has recorded 284 catches, 3,579 yards and 15 touchdowns since being selected fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The former Florida Gators standout is still just 25 years old. Cunningham said he believes this contract is more about what Pitts will do going forward than what he’s previously accomplished.

“We’re excited about the player Kyle is today and even more about the trajectory he’s on,” Cunningham concluded.
