Cesc Fabregas bemoaned Como’s “first poor game in five months”, but credited a “masterpiece” from Frosinone, who condemned his side to a 2-0 defeat on Sunday.

Como were beaten for the first time this season, with first-half goals from Giacomo Calo and Giorgi Kvernadze proving decisive at Stadio Benito Stirpe.

It marked only the fourth time Como had conceded multiple goals in the opening 45 minutes of a Serie A game under Fabregas, whose side missed the chance to move level on points with joint-leaders Roma and Inter.

That was despite Como creating chances worth a combined 2.2 expected goals, with Fabregas’ team finding Frosinone goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani in fine form.

Fabregas felt the latter’s interventions were crucial towards the outcome of the contest, but conceded he could have prepared his players better for the task at hand.

“I explained during the pre-match what sort of team Frosinone are,” he told reporters during his post-match press conference. “Maybe, I wasn’t good at making sure the team understood it.

“I wouldn’t have been surprised had we won 4-1 today, because Palmisani made a lot of saves.

“We didn’t have great control, we had four chances to score. When you lose, you get angry and then analyse, but Frosinone played the game that they wanted to, and we were not up to it. Frosinone did well to hurt us, we definitely have to improve.

“[It] was our first poor game in five months, the last being in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia against Inter [the 3-2 defeat].

“We should speak about a great Frosinone side today because they deserve it. It was a Frosinone masterpiece today. It was very clear what Frosinone wanted to do.”

Frosinone moved level with Como on 10 points, which is their highest after the opening five matches of a Serie A season.
