Ex-Lions WR signs with Buffalo Bills' practice squad

After the Detroit Lions released Greg Dortch in the team’s roster cuts on Sunday, the veteran wide receiver and return specialist has now signed a contract to join the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.

Dortch signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Lions back in March. It included $1 million guaranteed, per Spotrac.

However, after his Sunday release from the Lions, Dortch will now provide similar benefits for Buffalo in a depth role on their practice squad and scout team.

Given Dortch’s ability to impact special teams and his preexisting familiarity with first-year Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing from their time in Arizona, general manager Brad Holmes’ decision to part ways with the former Wake Forest product came as a surprise to some. It left Detroit with just four wide receivers on its 53-man roster and no player with return game reps.

The Lions opted to re-sign two other wide receivers to its 2026 practice squad on Monday in Tom Kennedy and Lucky Jackson.
