Ex-Brewers prospect Peters homers in fifth straight game for White Sox

What a year it’s been for former Milwaukee Brewers prospect and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers player Tristan Peters with the Chicago White Sox.

Peters homered in a fifth consecutive game Aug. 26, matching a franchise record, as part of a 3-for-4 performance in a 10-4 win over the Texas Rangers. Peters, who only has 12 home runs all season, has an .821 OPS this year.

Peters joins a host of White Sox players to accomplish the feat, including Munetaka Murakami earlier this year and Hall of Famer Frank Thomas, as well as former Brewers slugger Carlos Lee. Peters, Murakami and Ron Kittle are the only rookies to do it.

The homer also happened to mark Peters’ first in his career against a left-handed pitcher.

Peters, a seventh-round draft pick by the Brewers in 2021, was traded to the San Francisco Giants in a bit of an infamous exchange before the 2022 trade deadline for reliever Trevor Rosenthal.

Rosenthal was nursing an injury at the time and hadn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2020. He got injured again after the trade and never did pitch for the Brewers.

Peters was shipped after the 2022 season to Tampa Bay, where he made his big-league debut in 2025. The White Sox bought his contract from the Rays in December 2025 and he became a surprise all-star selection.

The native Canadian finished a triple shy of the cycle in a three-hit performance Aug. 25, and his home run Aug. 23 came in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off winner against the New York Mets, giving his team a 2-1 victory.

Peters endured a massive slump coming out of the All-Star Game, posting a .119 average and .395 OPS with zero homers through the first 24 games out of the break. He had only a .533 OPS in 32 games since the all-star break before his five-homer run.

At 70-63, the White Sox have a 2½-game lead over Cleveland in the American League Central, even though the Guardians have won seven straight games and remain hot on Chicago’s tail.

The Sox have already tied for the most victories for a team in Major League Baseball history coming off at least three straight 100-loss seasons, and no team has made the playoffs after even two straight 100-loss seasons, according to MLB research guru Sarah Langs.

The White Sox finished 60-102 last year, one year after a franchise-worst 41-121 season in 2024.

The White Sox have a day off Aug. 27 and return at Minnesota on Aug. 28, starting at 7:10 p.m. CT.
