Everything Texans LB Henry To'oTo'o said following Day 7 of training camp

Here is everything Houston Texans linebacker Henry To’o To’o said after Day 7 of training camp, including what it is going to take for Houston to win the Super Bowl, how he takes care of his body and his thoughts on the Texans adding Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Question: On what he did during the offseason to prepare for Training Camp

Henry To’oTo’o: “It was a lot. It was a whole lot. I feel like I spent a lot of time with Azeez [Al-Shaair]. I do every offseason. I was here most of the time, spending time with this training staff, with [Head Strength and Conditioning Assistant Coach] Mike Eubanks, spending time with them and then just working on footwork stuff here with Azeez. Azeez and I spent a lot of time together this offseason. Then obviously going back home, working with my coach, Coach [Mark] Wine. It was like my term, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ It was a whole village that I put into this offseason, knowing what kind of year it is for me personally, but for the team collectively. I want to be the best player that I can be for this team. I try to use all the resources that I have available to be able to make that happen to be the best I can be.”

Q: On what this year means to him personally

To’oTo’o: “I want to win. I’ve answered this before. Obviously, it’s my fourth year. We all are contract this, contract that. Yeah, that sounds good and all, but I just want to win. I want to make this team the first team in this organization to make it to the Super Bowl and to win the Super Bowl. I want to be a winner. No matter what it looks like, I want to win the play, win the down and then obviously win the game, every game that I go out. But I think my main goal, it means to me, is just to win. I want to win. I don’t like losing. I just want to win.”

Q: On what it is going to take to win a Super Bowl

To’oTo’o:“Everything. All the blood, sweat and tears that we got. It’s August right now, the goal is to play in February. It’s about five, six months? Everything you have got, every blood, sweat and tear that we can give it to as an organization, as a team, give it everything you got. I think that’s what it means. When I walk in this building every single day, I try to give everything I possibly have for this team. Whether it be good, bad, or ugly, I’m going to pour it out there, no matter what it is. I think ultimately, we have the right guys in here. We have 90 guys here right now. Every single guy here, I can say, will do the exact same thing for us to get where we need to be.”

Q: On how he takes care of his body to stay available

To’oTo’o: “I think I’ve learned throughout the years spending money. You have to spend some money, I’m not going to lie. You’ve got to spend the money. That’s the only way it’s possible. I’ve learned throughout the years that it takes some sacrifices, whether it’s time with my wife that I have to be away. It’s time for my family when they come down to watch some games. I can’t be home all the time. It’s doing stuff in the building, outside the building and finding different critiques that work for me. But ultimately, it’s sacrificing the precious time that I would love to go home and spend with my wife and my dog, but I use that time, whether it be an hour or two hours, to go put into my body. Then I also think that if I look back the past three years, I’ve been able to just play as much as I possibly can just because of those small sacrifices throughout the season and the year.”

Q: On what he learns from his bad performances

To’oTo’o:“I’m not going to lie, that was probably one of the toughest times of my life. I think Tampa was a hard one for me and then obviously, the Raiders game was a hard one for me. I think through those two games, it was just digging deep to find who I truly am as a player and as a man. Throughout my career, I’ve had bad plays, but I’ve never had bad plays like that. Being able to chin-check myself, look myself in the mirror and be like, ‘Am I going to fold? Am I going to give up? Or am I going to fix what’s happening in front of me and go out and be the player that I know that I can be?’ So, I think those two games specifically, it helped me develop to be able to be the better linebacker that I needed to be and the better man that I needed to be because you hate giving up stuff like that. Whenever you get punched in the mouth, it sucks. It honestly just gave [me] time to look in the mirror and was like, ‘All right, Henry, what are you going to do about it now? What are you going to do? You’re either going to fold up, or you’re going to go out and play some good balls?’ I’m super grateful for it. I tell my parents and my wife this all the time. I’m so grateful for hard times. I love hard times because it doesn’t do anything but help me grow.”

Q: On how he is able to have a bounce-back performance quickly

To’oTo’o:“Honestly, if I’m being so completely honest, it had a lot to do with my faith and getting on my knees and praying. I’m part of the LDS religion, so I’m Mormon and I go to the temple throughout the week and just ask Heavenly Father for answers and asking for just simple things to be able to ease my heart, ease my mind and comfort me where my feet are right now. It sounds super easy. It sounds like this and that, but I think I leaned on my faith more than anything to be able to just go out and play some good ball.”

Q: On LB Jamal Hill and the linebacker room

To’oTo’o: “I think ‘Scooby’ [LB Jamal Hill], since you talk about ‘Scooby’, he’s doing a hell of a job. He’s a sponge. He wants to learn. He wants to grow. He’s been making plays on the ball. He’s been phenomenal in coverage. He looks the best that I’ve seen him since he’s been here. Then we have our rookies: we have Sione Takitaki coming in, ‘Te’ [Marte Mapu], Jake Hummel. We have a whole bunch of guys in that room that, no matter who goes down, anybody that steps up and is ready to play, they’re ready to play. I look at that room and we have a whole bunch of dogs in there. Everybody in that room hasn’t had anything handed to them. We were all underdogs at one point. I think we all have that mindset to, no matter what we’re doing as a linebacker group, that we’ll go out and perform, for sure.”

Q: On the offense’s performance through training camp

To’o To’o: “Man, they’re moving fast. Offensive line looks really good. C.J. [Stroud] is making great decisions. The running backs, man the running backs, they’re good now. Whatever you’re seeing out there, don’t believe it. Those boys are good. They ball. They can move. When they get clicking, I don’t think anyone can stop them. They’re that good. They’re putting all the pieces together and they’re a hell of an offense, I’m telling you. Hell of an offense.”

Q: On if there is a big difference going into the second season with offensive coordinator Nick Caley

To’oTo’o:“They look good, I can tell you that. They look really, really good. Those boys look really, really good.”

Q: On the addition of DE Jadeveon Clowney

To’oTo’o: “I mean, legend. When I first saw him, I didn’t realize how tall he was. Just being able to add him in the group. Obviously, we have Will [Anderson Jr.] and Danielle [Hunter], but having a veteran like that to be able to come in and scare teams when they see it on paper. They see Clowney [out] there and they don’t want to block that. Having his presence, he’s such a cool, calm, [collected] dude. These few days have been great to have him here.”
