‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 (2022–Present)

Arriving on: November 1, 2026

Julian Fellowes‘ hit follow-up to Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age is returning for another season of drama and decadence. The HBO original historical drama follows high-society politics, conflicts, and romance in 1800s New York City, where a newly arrived Marian Brook gets entangled in a ruthless social war between her affluent aunts and their wealthy neighbors. Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson, and Morgan Spector return as the main characters, with Dennis Haysbert joining the stacked cast as a new character.

Since its first season premiere in 2022, The Gilded Age has become quite popular among Downton Abbey fans, earning praise for its luxurious production, rich costumes, and the sizzling performances of the lead cast. The upcoming fourth season is set between 1885 and 1886 and picks up six months after the sensational finale of Season 3, where Bertha Russell’s rise up the ranks of New York’s high society comes at a heavy price while Agen van Rhijn attempts to regain her social status. Also releasing alongside the show’s new chapter is Season 4 of The Gilded Age Podcast, hosted by Alicia Malone and Tom Meyers, where they break down every episode against the real-world history of the era.

‘City of God: The Fight Rages On’ Season 2 (2024–Present)

Arriving on: November 8, 2026

A Brazilian crime drama series, City of God: The Fight Rages On is based on the semi-autobiographical novel City of God by Paulo Lins and serves as a follow-up to the 2002 film, City of God. The Fight Rages On is set two decades after the events of the film, following photojournalist Wilson “Rocket” Rodrigues as he documents the conflicts between the drug dealers, police, militiamen, and politicians in the titular area of Rio de Janeiro and their impact on its residents. Directed by Kátia Lund and Fernando Meirelles, the show stars Alexandre Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Edson Oliveira, Marcos Palmeira, and Andréia Horta.

City of God: The Fight Rages On premiered in 2024 and was well-received by critics, who praised the show’s faithfulness to the original novel and movie. But when compared to its critically acclaimed predecessor, the HBO Max original series has been critiqued for falling short on the visual brilliance and visceral narrative that earned the 2002 film four Academy Award nominations. Nevertheless, the upcoming second season should make for an intriguing watch for crime drama fans.

  • The first film not in the English language to win Best Picture, in the Academy’s
    92-year history to that point.
  • It took four Oscars in one night: Picture, Director, Original Screenplay and International
    Feature.
  • It won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2019 by a unanimous jury vote, the first Korean film
    to do so.
  • The Park family’s modernist house was not a location. It was built from scratch on an
    outdoor lot.
  • Seven Oscars, including three acting wins for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee
    Curtis.
  • Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian woman to win Best Actress.
  • The visual effects were handled by a team of fewer than ten people, most of them
    self-taught.
  • Ke Huy Quan had all but left acting for two decades before this role brought him back.
  • Seven Oscars, including Nolan’s first wins for directing and for Best Picture.
  • Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. both took their first Academy Awards for it.
  • Kodak engineered a black-and-white 65mm stock that did not previously exist so Nolan could
    shoot those sequences on IMAX.
  • A three-hour, R-rated drama about theoretical physics that passed 950 million dollars
    worldwide.
  • Four Oscars, among them Best Picture and Best Director for Iñárritu.
  • Emmanuel Lubezki’s win here was the middle of three consecutive cinematography Oscars,
after Gravity and before The Revenant.
  • Antonio Sánchez’s improvised drum score was ruled ineligible for the score category,
    which caused a minor uproar.
  • The long-take illusion was built from a handful of extended shots joined by hidden cuts.
  • Four Oscars: Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem.
  • Adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel, with much of his dialogue carried over
    intact.
  • Carter Burwell’s score runs about sixteen minutes and is nearly inaudible by design.
  • Roger Deakins was nominated twice that year, for this and The Assassination of Jesse James,
    and won for neither.

‘Tony’ (2026)

Arriving on: November 20, 2026

Directed by Matt Johnson, Tony is the first feature film that chronicles the story of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain in a fictionalized, coming-of-age comedy narrative. Taken from the chef’s own anecdotes, as detailed in his memoir, Kitchen Confidential, the film follows a 19-year-old Anthony “Tony” Bourdain in 1975 as he experiences a transformative summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The film stars Dominic Sessa as Bourdain, with Antonio Banderas, Emilia Jones, Stavros Halkias, and Leo Woodall as other main characters.

A gastronome, writer, storyteller, and television personality, Anthony Bourdain was the voice that defined a generation, inspiring the culinary world (and beyond) like no other with his explorations of culture, cuisine, and the human condition. The A24 biographical drama serves as a heartfelt homage to his genius and a celebration of his dedication to his craft. On its theatrical premiere in August 2026, Tony earned positive reviews from critics and was widely praised for its charming storytelling and Banderas’ deeply felt performance.

‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ (2026)

Arriving on: November 27, 2026

Directed by Ben Gregor and written by Simon Farnaby, The Magic Faraway Tree is a film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree children’s book series. The plot follows a modern urban family who move to the countryside, where the three young siblings embark on a fantastical adventure into the magical realms of the titular tree, which also brings the family closer than ever. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast featuring Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nicola Coughlan, Rebecca Ferguson, and Judi Dench in key roles.

Following its UK theatrical premiere in March 2026 and US premiere in August 2026, The Magic Faraway Tree will make its streaming debut on HBO Max on November 27, 2026. On its theatrical release, it became the highest-grossing independent film at the time in the UK, winning the National Film Awards for Best Comedy. Fun, playful, and charming, The Magic Faraway Tree‘s whimsical family adventure is sure to uplift your spirits this season.

‘The Slightest Touch’ (2026)

Arriving on: November 27, 2026

The Slightest Touch is a documentary film that follows the deep, lifelong friendship between actor Colin Farrell and Emma Fogarty — the oldest woman in Ireland surviving with severe Epidermolysis Bullosa. To celebrate Emma’s 40th birthday, Farrell and Fogarty join the Dublin Marathon, where Farrell pushes Emma in a wheelchair for the final stretch. The film is directed by Rachel Fleit, an American director, producer, and writer, who fans might know from her earlier documentaries like Introducing, Selma Blair and Bama Rush.

A celebration of friendship and community, The Slightest Touch chronicles a heartwarming story of friendship, exploring how Farrell’s and her family’s enduring support has helped Fogarty navigate life with a rare, painful genetic condition. The endeavor helped raise donations for DEBRA Ireland Charity to support EB research and patient care and increase awareness of the rare disease. After screening at the Dublin International Film Festival in February 2026 and the London Film Festival in October 2026, The Slightest Touch will make its streaming debut on HBO Max this November.
