Every Upcoming Samara Weaving Movie & Show, Including The X-Men Reboot

· · 7 min read

Samara Weaving is one of Hollywood’s rising stars, and she’s only getting more popular and busier thanks to all her upcoming movies and shows. The Australian actress has been acting since 2008, but she started to break out throughout the 2010s by becoming a modern scream queen with horror roles in Ash vs Evil Dead, The Babysitter, and Ready or Not.

These roles gave her a great foundation for a successful 2020s. Weaving returned for The Babysitter: Killer Queen and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, became the G.I. Joe known as Scarlett for Snake Eyes, and had small roles in Babylon and Scream VI. By also lending her talents to smaller films like Borderline, Over Your Dead Body, Eenie Meanie, and Carolina Caroline, Weaving’s versatility as an actress keeps on shining.

It’s no surprise, then, that several studios and directors, and even a major franchise, have looked to secure her involvement in new movies and shows. Some have already finished filming, while others are newly announced or still trying to make it through development.

In any case, Weaving has a full pipeline of projects to work on, both as an actress and a producer. Her upcoming movies and shows range from a superhero reboot, a Christmas-themed comedy, and a new Netflix series.

The newest movie to lure Weaving aboard is the upcoming Christmas comedy, Naughty. The movie comes from director Olivia Wilde (The Wilde), writer Jimmy Warden (Cocaine Bear). It stars Jennifer Aniston as Mallory, a mom who needs Santa Claus to appear in court to gain custody of her son. Naughty has been described as Bridesmaids in the North Pole in some reports.

Weaving is one of the many stars who have joined the ensemble cast. She will play the mistress of Ike Barinholtz, who plays the ex-husband of Aniston’s character. Regina Hall and Chase Sui Wonders are slated to play Mallory’s friends. Would It Kill You To Laugh?‘s Kate Berlant and John Early also have undisclosed roles.

It’s a reunion project for Weaving and Warden, who wrote The Babysitter: Killer Queen and wrote and directed Borderline, both of which she starred in.

Naughty is currently in pre-production and is slated to begin filming soon. Universal has already given the comedy a November 5, 2027, release date.

Untitled X-Men Movie (2028)

<

Weaving is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2028 for a key role in Marvel Studios’ first X-Men movie. Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), official plot details are still under wraps. It will be the first MCU movie to come out after Avengers: Secret Wars and kick off a new saga.

Weaving is confirmed to be playing Emma Frost. She is a powerful telepathic mutant who can turn her body into diamond. Emma has been both an adversary to the X-Men and a major member of the team in the comics, depending on the run. The character was last portrayed in live-action by January Jones in X-Men: First Class.

The actress is poised to have a pivotal role in the film, even if she is not the lead. The X-Men cast is led by Sadie Sink (Jean Grey) and Kit Connor (Cyclops), with Christopher Abbott (Professor X) guiding the young mutants. Inde Navarrette (Rogue), Maya Boyd (Storm), and Asa Germann (Angel) are other X-Men members confirmed to appear. Adam Driver (Mr. Sinister) is slated to be the movie’s main villain.

The MCU’s untitled X-Men is on Disney’s slate for a May 5, 2028, release date. Production is expected to begin in 2027.

Hivemind (TBD)

<

Before becoming Emma Frost, Weaving has decided to stay busy by filming an environmental thriller, Hivemind. The project comes from Irish director Ciarán Foy with a script from Peter Gaffney. The story revolves around the rise of a new type of killer wasps and a small town’s efforts to stop them from spreading across the world.

Weaving was cast in Hivemind in August 2026 as the female lead. Nicholas Braun (Succession) is set to be the male lead. Together, they will play authorities in the central town trying to stop the outbreak.

Production began in August 2026. Amazon MGM is involved with the release and will stream it internationally on Prime Video. No release date is officially set, but it should be ready to debut in 2027, or 2028 at the latest.

Weaving is also bringing her talents to the small screen for a guest role in The Earliest Show. The upcoming comedy series from Ben Schwartz is a remake of the original 2016 six-episode online show he and Lauren Lapkus starred in together. The Earliest Show will follow Josh (Schwartz) and Sam (Lapkus) as they work on the earliest morning show in New York.

The series was announced in late 2025, but Weaving’s involvement was confirmed in July 2026. She’s set to be one of the many guest stars, joining the likes of Chris Pratt, Sarah Silverman, Gillian Jacobs, Nicole Byer, Lamorne Morris, Mary Holland, Jillian Bell, Tawny Newsome, Henry Winkler, and more.

The Earliest Show has been made independently by Amplify Pictures and Stay Tuned, leaving some uncertainty about when and where the series will actually debut.

Bella (TBD)

<

With several action-oriented credits under her belt, Weaving has her own starring vehicle in development with Bella. The original action thriller was announced in 2023 with Larysa Kondracki directing, based on a script by Jason Markarian and revised by Jesse Wigutow. Bella also has John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski attached as a producer through 87Eleven Entertainment.

At the time of Bella‘s announcement, it was described as a hyperstylized action thriller set in 1980s New York about a cop’s daughter who seeks revenge after an assassination attempt on her father. The project was set up at Paramount Pictures, but no updates have come since.

It is unclear if Bella remains in development following Paramount’s merger with Skydance, not to mention the merger that followed with Warner Bros. It might come down to how eager Paramount is to have a John Wick-esque action movie starring Weaving, or if her schedule becomes too busy.

2

Liz (TBD)

<

One of Weaving’s upcoming movies that still has some work to do to be seen in Liz. The movie was announced in 2021 with Adam Leon directing, based on a script by Gabriel Neustadt. It is a biopic about Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, one of America’s earliest celebrities.

It’s been over five years since Liz was announced, and no major updates have come since. But Weaving expressed why she was so interested in making the movie in a 2023 interview with IndieWire, saying:

I’m a huge fan of [director] Adam Leon’s work. ‘Italian Studies’ is one of my favorite movies, so just working with him is going to be awesome. And Elizabeth Bonaparte is so dope. She’s the first American socialite, first American female millionaire who made every penny on her own.

It is unclear if it will ever come to fruition, or if this will be a role that Weaving never gets to bring to life.

Down The Rabbit Hole (TBD)

<

Weaving is attached to bring another real-life person to life in the upcoming TV series, Down the Rabbit Hole. Her casting was announced in 2021 as part of Sony Pictures Television optioning a limited series about former Playboy Bunny Holly Madison’s life.

Down the Rabbit Hole was announced with Marieke Hardy writing the scripts. However, five years later, the series has yet to make any progress. Weaving has expressed her desire to play the former Playboy Bunny, calling her “so cool” and “the best” in the aforementioned IndieWire interview. The actress also expressed her nerves with such a role:

I’m nervous about Holly Madison, because people have their own idea about who she is, whereas period pieces, people don’t know who these women are and there’s no footage of them. It’s a little less stressful for me to do them justice.

Only time will tell whether Samara Weaving ever gets the opportunity to show her version of Holly Madison.
