European Athletics Championships medal table

Italy beat Great Britain by one gold to finish the top of the medal table at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

With home advantage for the first time, Britain were seeking to finish top of the standings after coming third at Rome 2024.

But Italy beat Great Britain to men’s 4x400m gold in a thrilling finish in the final race of the championships to make it back-to back top-place finishes.

GB remain the most successful nation in the 92-year history of the championships, having topped the medal table in Brussels in 1950 and Budapest in 1998 before finishing first at Zurich 2014, Berlin 2018 and Munich 2022.
