After Detroit’s (5-2) emotional 19-15 win over the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings (6-1) at Ford Field on Sunday afternoon, ESPN provided its takeaways from the Lions‘ performance.
While the matchup was the heavyweight tilt expected between the Lions‘ high-powered offense and the Vikings‘ stout defense, Detroit prevailed through a hard-nosed run game, constant pressure on quarterback Kyler Murray, and an impressive pass defense that kept explosive plays to a minimum.
ESPN’s article highlighted two major takeaways from the Lions’ performance on Sunday: Jahmyr Gibbs’ superb day on the ground game, as well as the modest-but-not-perfect showing from quarterback Jared Goff.
Is RB Jahmyr Gibbs on track to win AP Offensive Player of the Year?
“He should be. Gibbs was already having a sensational season before running 23 times for 153 yards against the Vikings’ league-best defense. He’s shouldering a significantly bigger load than in his three previous seasons, and he just led the Lions to a win over a previously undefeated division rival. It’s worth monitoring his workload, as he’s on pace for around 470 touches this season. But Gibbs has been spectacular.”

What to make of the QB performance:
“Jared Goff was blitzed on a career-high 83% of his dropbacks, including a 90% rate in the first half that led to three sacks. However, he limited mistakes against the blitz in the second half, completing 5 of 6 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.” — ESPN staff

With the Lions 2-0 after two difficult NFC North clashes, Detroit will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Hard Rock Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla., on Sunday, Nov. 8, to take on the Miami Dolphins (1-6). That game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS.
