Escape From Jurassic Park Trailer Unveiled 33 Years After Premature Cancellation

Jurassic Park returns through the trailer for the TV show that never was.

Jurassic Park is one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time. The 1993 movie directed by Steven Spielberg made many believe that dinosaurs really could walk around with humans again one day, leading to the start of an impressive trilogy that mixed practical effects with VFX to create blockbusters that have stood the test of time. More recently, through the Jurassic World movies, the franchise has continued with a modern chapter, which has grown to include TV shows, but several years before that, a Jurassic Park series had already been planned as a spin-off to the first movie.

On X, Chris Pugh shared the unearthed pitch trailer for the canceled 1993 spin-off titled Escape From Jurassic Park.

The trailer for the animated Jurassic Park series starts with the franchise’s iconic John Williams theme, showing calm moments of wonder with dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park, first with a helicopter flying above the island, and then with characters fans know and love, like Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and more. However, the footage quickly ups the tension with lightning, humans in peril, dinosaurs fighting, and more. The Escape From Jurassic Park trailer teases how the spin-off series planned to follow the same kind of tone as the Spielberg movie.

At Jurassic Outpost back in 2016, Pugh shared more details about what the canceled Jurassic Park series would have entailed. According to the report, the plan was for the animated spin-off to serve as a direct follow-up to the events of Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. As per the story outline developed at the now-defunct Universal Cartoon Studios before the show was scrapped in 1994, the plan was to have the core cast from 1993’s Jurassic Park be part of the show, with a 23-episode arc that would have ended with a massive press conference where John Hammond would declare that Jurassic Park was formally open.

While Escape From Jurassic Park was canceled before it ever made it to the small screen, through the franchise’s modern Jurassic World era, it has finally made that dream a reality. After all, Netflix has released two successful animated Jurassic World spin-off series that focus on new characters and returning players from the Jurassic World movies and connect to events in the Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard trilogy. The first of those projects was Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which followed a group of teenagers trapped alone in Isla Nublar after Jurassic World fell. It ran for five seasons, getting a sequel series.

Camp Cretaceous was followed by Jurassic World: Chaos Theory on Netflix, which ran for four seasons and brought back the core characters from the original animated series, dubbed the Nublar Six, now as young adults unearthing a global dinosaur conspiracy. While Escape From Jurassic Park might have never made it to series, the Jurassic Park franchise eventually found its way to animation with huge success over at Netflix, and the trailer for Escape From Jurassic Park finally being unearthed brings this chapter of the sci-fi franchise full circle.
