Eric Bieniemy streaming Chiefs practices as he cares for wife after shooting

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is keeping tabs on the team while he’s away as his wife continues to recover from a gunshot wound.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach told reporters on Thursday, Aug. 5, that Bieniemy has live-streamed training camp practices and has shared feedback.

Chiefs wide receiver and special teamer Nikko Remigio said he’s “absolutely” felt Bieniemy’s presence despite the offensive coordinator physically not being in attendance.

“If it’s not (Eric Bieniemy) that’s saying it, it’s the coaching staff that’s reiterating the stuff that he’s saying,” Remigio said Thursday.

Bieniemy left training camp after his wife Mia was shot at the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, on July 26. Police arrested Eric and Mia’s 27-year-old son, Elijah Bieniemy, and charged him with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.

Elijah’s court hearings have been delayed pending a mental health evaluation. Elijah was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and held without bond, and the parties are scheduled to meet and review progress on Sept. 9, according to online court information.

Mia Bieniemy continues to recover from multiple gunshot wounds. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday, July 29, that she was transferred out of the intensive care unit.

Reid told reporters on Monday, Aug. 3, that Mia continues to recover and there’s no timetable for Eric’s return.

“Mia’s (Bieniemy) doing better. She keeps improving by the day, so that’s a positive,” Reid said. “There’s no timetable on EB coming back or any of that, so he just needs to take care of business there and then when he gets back here, he gets back here.”

The Chiefs preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams is on Saturday, Aug. 15. The Chiefs’ final day of training camp is on Thursday, Aug. 20, according to the team’s official website.
