Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen has expressed his surprise at Marcus Rashford’s glum expression during the 1-1 Premier League draw against Fulham on Sunday.
After a goalless first half at Craven Cottage, Lisandro Martinez’s own goal in the 63rd minute gave the hosts the lead before Matheus Cunha equalised for the Red Devils in the final minute.
Rashford, 28, featured in the starting lineup but failed to make a significant impact, appearing largely isolated and discontented in the forward position.
Owen criticised Rashford’s facial expression, saying, as per UF: “I don’t understand the glum face. He just doesn’t seem to be enjoying his football. He is the weak link in the attack as things stand. He’s 28 now. He should be in his prime. He should be absolutely tearing defences down.”
Rashford, who returned to Old Trafford following a fruitful loan spell at Barcelona last season, has yet to register a goal or assist in six competitive matches this term.
He has featured in all five league fixtures, starting four of them, and played 80 minutes in the 3-2 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup last week.
Following an underwhelming start to the new season, pressure is beginning to mount on Manchester United head coach, Michael Carrick, whose side have now gone winless in three consecutive games across all competitions.
