Elliot Cadeau confirms return to Michigan basketball

On Monday, after Dusty May summarily departed Ann Arbor to coach the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA, star guard Trey McKenney, the former five-star from Flint, told reporters at a golf outing that he was working to keep the extant talent with Michigan basketball, indicating he had no intentions of leaving the program with the coaching change. He noted that Elliot Cadeau was working beside him to convince players to remain in Ann Arbor, but Cadeau hadn’t issued anything declaring his intentions one way or another.

However, good news came later in the week as Cadeau is officially remaining with the Wolverines.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Cadeau has revealed that he will stay with Michigan basketball and play for the maize and blue his senior year.

Cadeau won ‘most outstanding player’ in the Final Four on the heels of solid performances against both Arizona and UConn. He will now be interim head coach Mike Boynton’s established point guard, and is the only returning starter from last season’s national championship team.

As of yet, no players have revealed intentions of seeking to transfer or depart the program. The other starters from last year’s team have all left for the NBA, with Morez Johnson Jr. being selected ninth in the draft (by Dusty May), Yaxel Lendborg going 11th, and Aday Mara being picked 12th. Nimari Burnett, the other starter, signed with the Toronto Raptors, while sixth man Roddy Gayle signed with the Detroit Pistons.

Cadeau had tested the NBA draft waters, but ultimately opted to return to the program.
