EKSU students lament over N78k convocation fee

Ekiti state university students on Twitter have condemned the institution’s management over the introduction of the N78,000 convocation ceremony fee for graduating students.

Recall that the school management had on March 8, announced the combined 25th and 26th convocation ceremonies on the university website for graduates from 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic sessions. The graduating students were subsequently asked to pay a fee of N78,000.

The students who tweeted under the hashtag #saveeksu described the N78,000 convocation fee as exorbitant and extorting.

One user, @Im_versatiles tweeted, “acceptance fee 107,000, convocation fee 78,000 in a school that has no electricity, no good road, no conducive learning environment?”

“Most parents borrowed from LAPO and SEAP just to ensure their kids could graduate, and EKSU want them to go and borrow 78k for convocation.

@Priesthood10 in a tweet said;
Do you want to give them a job? These people want to make life unbearable to a layman,”

Another user, @Bayonle_Adesua, wrote;

“78k is too much for struggling parents and students, Una won turn them to daylight robbers? We say no to 78k before certificate collection #SaveEKSU,”

The convocation ceremony is scheduled to hold alongside the university’s 40th anniversary from 23rd to 30th of March, 2022.
