Edugist Joins Global DRM Consortium to Advance the Future of Education Broadcasting in Africa

The membership marks a significant milestone in Edugist’s mission to leverage journalism, innovation and technology to improve education outcomes across Africa. It also reinforces the organisation’s growing commitment to exploring innovative communication solutions that expand access to learning, strengthen school communities and equip young people with future-ready skills.

The announcement comes at a pivotal moment as Edugist advances the development of Edugist School Radio—an innovative initiative that will establish a network of closed-circuit, in-school broadcast stations designed to provide schools with a practical internal communication platform while introducing students to the world of broadcasting, journalism and public communication.

Unlike conventional FM radio stations, Edugist School Radio will operate through wired intercom and closed-circuit broadcasting infrastructure within participating schools. The model eliminates the need for public broadcast licensing, significantly reduces operating costs and regulatory complexity, and enables schools to establish sustainable campus broadcasting systems tailored to teaching, learning and school management.

Beyond serving as an internal communication tool for announcements, educational programmes and emergency communication, the initiative is designed to become a practical learning laboratory where students develop communication, presentation, journalism, storytelling, media production and leadership skills through hands-on experience.
