Edo Queens petition CAF over WAFU B Women's Champions League final
Edo Queens have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football, CAF, requesting the annulment of the continuation of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League final against Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC.
According to a statement from the Edo State government, the original final was played on 5 September 2026 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, with Edo Queens winning the subsequent penalty shoot-out 4-1.
CAF’s Organising Committee, in a decision dated 26 September 2026 and subsequently upheld by the CAF Appeal Board on 16 October 2026, ruled that the penalty shoot-out had no sporting effect and ordered the match to resume from the start of extra time at 2-2.
Edo Queens is challenging the continuation on three main grounds, including an unauthorised change of venue from Ouagadougou to Cairo, Egypt, without the required confirmation from WAFU B in accordance with CAF’s decision.
The club also alleged failure to restore sporting conditions, claiming it was prevented from fielding eligible players who participated in the original match and raising concerns about its delegation being accommodated in a military base rather than a conventional team hotel.
The Nigerian champions further cited inadequate official communication about the venue, kick-off time and match arrangements.
Edo Queens urged CAF to declare the 29 October continuation null and void and order a full 90-minute replay at the original venue or alternatively declare Edo Queens winner of the WAFU Zone B tournament if a replay cannot be completed before the CAF Women’s Champions League begins on 1 November 2026.
DAILY POST reports that Edo Queens lost by a lone goal to Ampem Darkoa in extra time played in Cairo on Thursday.
