Spaced is a comedy series that aired for two seasons in 1999 and 2001. With Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson in the lead roles, the series revolves around strangers Daisy Steiner and Tim Bisley, who team up to land an apartment by pretending to be in a relationship. Nick Frost, Katy Carmichael, Mark Heap and Julia Deakin are their co-stars.
The complete series of Spaced is being remastered on 4K Blu-ray, with a release date set for February 9, 2027. A fan on X pointed out that studio All3Media is using AI to remaster the show and tagged Wright, who responded by admitting he was finding out about this development for the first time and was disheartened by the news.
He’s been “pushing” for a Blu-ray of Spaced for several years, “so to find out that someone just went ahead without our involvement is…a bummer.” Wright added that no one involved with Spaced authorized the use of AI in this remastered release.

Edgar Wright: “Finding out about this on for the first time is… disheartening. I had been pushing to do a Blu-Ray of SPACED for years, so to find out that someone just went ahead without our involvement is…. a bummer. Not authorized by anyone involved in making the show. Finding out what happened as we speak.”

After another fan asked how this could be done without him knowing, Wright said that he and the team were “very involved in the previous editions, but not this one. Don’t know.” He added that he’s currently looking into seeing if he can find out more information about what’s going on.
Edgar Wright: “It’s a Channel 4 show. We were all very involved in the previous editions, but not this one. Don’t know. Finding out.”

The Blu-ray will have several bonus features, including the original commentary tracks; commentaries with Kevin Smith, Diablo Cody, Matt Stone and Patton Oswalt; outtakes; homage-o-meter subtitle tracks; trailers and TV promos; the feature-length documentary Skip to the End; the Spaced 2007 reunion Q&A; deleted scenes with optional audio commentary; behind-the-scenes footage; Osymyso’s “Spaced Jam” music video; and a photo gallery.
Wright co-created and co-wrote the series with Stevenson, and directed every single episode. Before Spaced, Wright had worked on shows like Asylum, Mash and Peas, Alexei Sayle’s Merry-Go-Round, Is It Bill Bailey? and Sir Bernard’s Stately Homes.
After Spaced ended in 2001, Wright went on to helm Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, all of which were co-written with Pegg. He also directed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho and The Running Man, and co-wrote Ant-Man.

Wright and Pegg are collaborating once again on another project. While not much is known, Wright has said that it won’t be a zombie movie. In the meantime, the acclaimed filmmaker has been thrown for a loop after finding out about this AI-remastered Blu-ray release of Spaced. As of this writing, All3Media hasn’t released a statement reacting to Wright’s disappointment.
