Eddys Leonard, who started 2026 in Brewers' minors, gets first MLB hit

Eddys Leonard, a career minor-leaguer who had a great start to the season with Class AAA Nashville in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, got his first big-league hit Wednesday, Aug. 5 with a double for the San Francisco Giants.

Leonard, with a beaming smile on his face, cruised into second after lofting a ball over the head of Texas Rangers left-fielder Wyatt Langford in Arlington, Texas.

Leonard had more than 3,000 plate appearances over nine years in the minor leagues, though he’s still only 25 years old.

Leonard put up great numbers for the Nashville Sounds this year, recording an .873 OPS with 12 home runs. He had signed with the Brewers in late 2025 as a minor-league free agent, coming off a year when he hit 20 homers for the Braves Class AAA affiliate, Gwinnett.

But the Brewers released Leonard in mid-June, honoring an opt-out clause in his contract. The Giants selected his contract from Class AAA Sacramento on Aug. 4, and one day later, he had his first big-league hit.
