As the Eagles news: Insider brushes off JalenPhiladelphia Eagles avoided a collapse against the Washington Commanders, pulling off a 24-22 win on Sunday, quarterback Jalen Hurts made the clutch plays that sealed the victory. With Hurts commanding a new Eagles offense under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, this NFL insider would speak about the offensive showcase in Week 1.

In the win over the Commanders, Hurts threw for 203 yards to go along with three touchdown passes, plus added 46 yards on the ground that helped in key spots. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer believes Hurts was just “O.K.,” but said that Mannion “did what he was hired to” do, which was to elevate the running game, as Philadelphia recorded 136 total yards on the ground.

“Jalen Hurts was just O.K. in his debut for new OC Sean Mannion, but Mannion did what he was hired to—pumping life into the Eagles’ run game. Philadelphia ran for 136 yards on 25 carries, with both Hurts and Saquon Barkley ripping off explosive plays on the ground,” Breer wrote.

Hurts would speak about working with Mannion in Week 1 of the Eagles season, saying that the whole operation, including himself, has some improving to do.

“I think there’s room and a space to just narrow things down and kind of build things in the same direction. I think as the flow of the game, he’s got a feel for what we’re doing, and these situations are transitioning throughout the game too. You’re expecting a situation to come up, but in all reality, we’ve got to help him out,” Hurts said, via the team’s transcripts.

“Obviously, Coach is going to have some things that he wants back,” Hurts continued. “I’m going to have some throws that I want back, and I’m going to have sometimes where we’ve got to line up quicker…Not an excuse from me in terms of it being week one. We’re just pushing for excellence in everything that we do with that.”

Philadelphia looks to keep the momentum going as they take a 1-0 record into Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans next Sunday.
