Eagles add UFL wide receiver Erik Ezukanma to crowded WR room

The Eagles are adding another wide receiver to an already competitive room, signing former Dolphins fourth-round pick Erik Ezukanma after his stint with the UFL’s D.C. Defenders. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Philadelphia is signing Ezukanma, giving the former Texas Tech standout another opportunity to compete for an NFL roster spot. Ezukanma entered the league as the No. 125 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft after Miami selected him in the fourth round, but his path has included limited regular-season production and multiple stops before landing with the Eagles.

Ezukanma made his NFL debut for the Dolphins in Week 18 against the New York Jets, recording his first career catch on a 3-yard reception from Skylar Thompson. He later spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, signing to their practice squad in August 2025 before being released in October. In February, Ezukanma signed with the D.C. Defenders of the United Football League, keeping himself active and creating another chance to get back onto an NFL roster. In ten games played, Ezukanma logged 15 catches for 227 yards and one touchdown.

The appeal for Philadelphia is easy to understand. Ezukanma brings size, developmental traits, and a productive college background to the Eagles’ receiver competition. He closed his Texas Tech career as the Red Raiders’ leading receiver for a third consecutive season, becoming the first player in the program since Wayne Walker from 1985-87 to lead the team in receiving yards over three straight years. In his final season, Ezukanma had 48 catches for 705 yards and four touchdowns while adding 10 rushing attempts for 138 yards and two scores.

For the Eagles, this is a low-risk move with training camp approaching. DeVonta Smith sits atop the receiver depth chart, while Philadelphia has reshaped the position with Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore among the notable names in the mix. Ezukanma will enter as a depth piece, trying to use his size and versatility to make an impression during camp and preseason work.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the Eagles have shown a willingness to keep searching for competition at wide receiver. Ezukanma’s signing gives the former Dolphins draft pick another chance to prove his college production and UFL persistence can translate into a longer NFL opportunity.
