Dungeons & Dragons Meets KPop Demon Hunters In New RPG
Dungeons & Dragons is not the kind of RPG experience one would often associate with the neon-soaked, pop star-laden, demon-infested, whimsical KPop Demon Hunters. Indeed, while the latter certainly has monsters to slay and an abundance of the fantastical, it’s far from the fantasy typically seen in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. You’re unlikely to find an owlbear in KPop Demon Hunters much in the same way you’re unlikely to find a KPop idol who’s secretly a demon in D&D.
Well, that certainly was the case until recently. A brand-new D&D RPG is looming on the horizon, offering a distinctly KPop-themed adventure for those who feel like their campaigns are missing a more musical touch. Short of being fully KPop Demon Hunters branded, this is ostensibly the closest one will get to a true KPop Demon Hunters RPG, and it is already set to be rather incredible. At the very least, those who want to spice up their D&D hangouts will want to check this one out.
KPop Demon Hunters Meets D&D Is A Refreshing Combination

Idols of the Neon Dark feels like it shouldn’t work, and yet, the fan-made D&D 5e expansion that garnered a staggering $196,225 via Kickstarter (over 1,400% of its original goal of $13,388) has somehow managed to fuse the aforementioned qualities of KPop Demon Hunters into a D&D campaign. It hasn’t merely taken the Bard class and made an entire experience around it, but rather taken every element of D&D, every class and concept, and infused them with that KPop magic.
Idols of the Neon Dark isn’t out yet. However, an alpha version of its sourcebook was sent out to those who backed it on Kickstarter a short while ago, and it has already proven to be wildly successful. Idols of the Neon Dark has truly managed to deliver an RPG that’s faithful to Dungeons & Dragons in so far as one must be with an unofficial expansion of its ruleset while also offering the KPop Demon Hunters fantasy that so many have been searching for in RPG form.
Idols of the Neon Dark’s main addition to the D&D 5e ruleset is the new Idol class. It functions differently from the Bard class, although it is familiar enough for those who tend to use it frequently. Idols can manifest magic from the power of rhythm and their connection with the crowd, a feeling that is quantified by the Harmonies mechanic. The more powerful their magic gets, the better they can buff allies and debuff enemies. However, no two Idols are designed the same, and players will need to form a group of Idols to maximize their power.
Ostensibly, this caters to those who wish to form their own version of Huntrix while recreating the likes of Rumi, Zoey, and Mira from KPop Demon Hunters. It also works well with the new crowd energy system, which plays directly into the Idol class’s strengths. Beyond simply singing your heart out to kill enemies, there are KPop-themed enhancements to existing classes, new subclasses, races, and the possibility for Idol rivalries within the game’s neon-soaked setting of Lumerica. Simply put, it’s as expansive a KPop Demon Hunters-esque D&D campaign as one could hope for.
Idols Of The Neon Dark Is Releasing Soon

As aforementioned, Idols of the Neon Dark hasn’t been released yet, but the complete product is close to finally being in the hands of players. The digital copy of its combined core books is set to be released in December 2026, and the fully illustrated hardback physical copies of all four of its core books will be sent to Kickstarter backers in April 2027. You can still pre-order a copy of the expansion via its official Kickstarter page if it sounds like the KPop Demon Hunters game of your dreams.
It is exciting to see such a vastly different take on the Dungeons and Dragons formula, one that doesn’t strictly adhere to its typical fantasy setting, but rather ventures out into uncharted territory. Of course, there are plenty of unique 5e expansions that dare to do things a little differently, many of which are great. However, at least so far, Idols of the Neon Dark provides a previously inaccessible opportunity to live out one’s KPop Demon Hunters fantasy within the largely great rules of D&D 5e.
